Film Maker
A client needed a time lapse sequence of their store interior being broken down and redecorated for a seasonal change. Traditional DSLR type cameras were out because of weight and power requirements. The Brinno TLC200 Pro was right for the job. - very light weight - long battery life (4 AA batteries) - decent quality .avi files recorded to a SDHC card fo0r easy transfer to computer. I was able to pick up the package at the Smartec Store after ordering online. Great customer service, by the way! After mounting the camera with the wall mount included in my package and using it for a few weeks, here is brief review: - Camera operation has a fairly simple menu system. The manual does a pretty good job of the various settings, although I wish it went into more detail on the differences in exposure/shutter speed between the various scene settings. - Focusing on the tiny LCD screen is tough,as has been mentioned in other online reviews. The magnified focus mode helps a bit, but it's still not easy to find the sharpest focus without turning the lens in and out of focus several times to "lock it in". - The lens is good for a kit lens: F/2.0 with a 112 degree field of view (similar to a 19mm lens on a full frame 35mm camera). However, to focus, a tiny philips head screw must be loosened with the equally tiny enclosed screwdriver, then re-tightened after focusing. Fortunately, you'll likely be doing this only once during initial setup. If you are shooting outdoors in daylight, you may not have to adjust the pre-set factory focus at all. There is a larger knurled screw included in the box for use with accessory lenses, I wish it could be used with the kit lens. - There is a good variety of color temperature settings, ranging from daylight to tungsten (3300 was perfect for my location). - Overall picture quality is also pretty decent for the price. The image is over sharpened at the stock settings, at least in the Twilight mode that I used, but can be easily dialed back in the settings menu to take the edge off. - Battery life is great! I have the timer set to record at 1 minute intervals daily from 9am to 6pm (0900-1800 in the menu)and after 3 weeks the battery life indicator still showed more than half full. - The chip resolution is 1280x720, the lower end of high definition, but still quite usable. - I haven't had to use the weather proof housing yet, but I'm glad that it is included. My wish list: - Full 1920x1080 resolution chip and processing. - Better focusing. Sharper LCD screen and an integrated knurled screw on the kit lens like they have on the accessory lenses. All in all, this a really nice camera package for the price. Good quality picture, versatile settings and small enough to fit almost anywhere. Combined with Smartec's excellent customer service, it's hard to beat.
